About Prairie Storm Athletics

Prairie Storm Athletics is a Track and Field team based in Neepawa, MB.  The team is open to athletes from across central and western Manitoba in grade 8 through high school, as well as to athletes in University.

The purpose of the team has always been to have fun and to develop athletic skills and abilities in the sport of track and field.  We also try to provide athletes with coaching, programming and opportunties that do not typcically exist within the school system.

We offer athletes the opportunity to compete in track and field indoors throughout the winter, we offer seasonal and/or year-long programming and development for those who choose to compete year round.  This year-round exposure will help athletes to improve their individual abilities and personal bests, as well as aid in the preparation for identification and selection of Provincial Teams for those athletes who seek those opportunities.  The team is developmental with a focus on building a solid foundation so that athletes can successfully transition to high-performance sport.

At Prairie Storm Athletics we offer:

– a strong technical background in athletics

– more professional and high-performance environment

– quality teaching, feedback, and correction

– individual programming

– superior seasonal and yearly planning

– superior competition schedule

– superior development pathway

– group travel

– meet exposure and experience

– the goal of seeing HOW FAR each athlete can go in the sport

– strong connection to USport coaches

Athletes from Prairie Storm Athletics have had many successes at the Provincial and National level across all event groups.  In 2018, our club had six athletes with top 10 performances, three athletes with top 4 performances, at the National U16 and U18 Championships and one National Champion!

Our alumni have accepted athletic scholarships to continue with track and field and are currently competiting for the University of Alberta Pandas, University of Saskatchewan Huskies, University of Manitoba Bisons and soon with the University of New Brunswick Reds.

Prairie Storm Athletics prides itself on having a small roster that allows for each athlete to get constant attention and feedback from the coach.  Too many athletes training at one time takes away from athletes getting the feedback they need to make improvements so we keep our roster small.  As a result of our small roster there is an application and tryout process for Prairie Storm Athletics when there are roster spaces needing to be filled.

The application process is ongoing and athletes are encouraged to apply at any time but athletes must apply for the team in advance of the season in which they wish to compete.  The selection process will be prior to each of the three seasons that the year is broken into; Season 1 – Cross Country (mid to late August into October), Season 2 – Indoor Competition (October to mid-March), and Season 3 – Outdoor Competition (mid-March to July). We review applications anywhere from 4-6 weeks in advance of the upcoming season as we begin to prepare.

Athletes can apply for one, two or all three seasons.  There are normally waitlists for each of the competition seasons so submitting an application early is very important and encouraged!
