Prairie Storm Athletics athletes officially opened the 2019 indoor competition season this past weekend at the WOA Winter Open, in Winnipeg, MB.
The meet offered a full schedule of events over Friday and Saturday. Ben Perrett led the way on the track setting personal bests in all three events over the weekend. He set new marks in the 60m – 7.42 (3rd place) the 400m – 51.27 (1st place), and the 200m – 23.25 (1st place). He also helped the Open 4x100m finish 1st.
Other top performances included Daxx Turner setting personal best in the high jump 1.83m (1st place) and triple jump 13.65m (1st place). Daxx also ran with the 4x100m team.
In the women’s 60m, Jorja Hoad finished 2nd with a new personal best time of 8.09, while teammate Peighton Johnson was 5th (8.29, personal best), while Lara Denbow was 8th (8.54, personal best). Daniele Dyck went 7.78 seconds to win the U20 Women’s 60m while improving her own personal best time as well.
Lara Denbow finished 1st in the U18 400m with an impressive 60.93 second, new personal best, ahead of Johnson 4th and Hoad 5th. In the U20, Amy Klippenstein, running for the U of M Bison, was 2nd, ahead of Dyck 3rd with a new personal best time.
In the U16 200m, Kensi Rankie was 5th, while in the U18 200m Johnson was 5th ahead of Hoad 7th. While Dyck was 2nd in the U20 section.
Shelby Gluska was 5th in the U16 800m, 4th in the 1200m, and 3rd in the 2000m. While Amy Klippenstein was 1st in the U20 women’s 800m.
Lara Denbow, Kensi Rainkie, Peighton Johnson and Jorja Hoad joined forces to run 51.19 in the Open Women’s 4x100m, good for second by less than 0.10 of a second.
In the field Lara Denbow opened her high jump season clearing 1.61m, good for 1st.
The men were equally as impressive as the women on the track with Jacob Reimer finishing 6th in the U16 60m, while Wil Miller Harms was 2nd in the U18 Men’s 60m, ahead of teammates Tyson Chambers, 4th and Riley Neufeld 5th.
Miller Harms bettered his 2nd place in the 60m event with a 1st in the U18 200m, while Reimer was 3rd in the U16 event and 2nd in the U16 300m.

Nine members of Prairie Storm Athletics travel to Saskatoon, SK this weekend to take part in the Knights of Columbus meet before heading to the University of Manitoba to take part in the Bison Classic.
