It’s been a busy spring and summer for members of Prairie Storm Athletics! Athletes performed exceptionally well in the Age Class Provincial Championships in June, twelve members of the team represented Manitoba at the Western Canada Challenge or Tri-Province Meet, where they brought home two individual medals, and eight relay medals. The summer of track continues as we are now very excited to share that we have seven members of the team and one relay team that will be competing in the Legion Midget and Youth Nationals from August 11-13 in Brandon, MB.
Athletes are eligible to compete in Legion Nationals in one of two ways. Option one is to attend the Legion Athletic Camp in July and be selected from the camp to represent Manitoba and Northwest Ontario, while option two is for athletes to meet the performance/entry requirements/standards at a sanctioned meet. This year we have athletes competing at Nationals who have qualified both ways.
Daxx Turner will represent Manitoba and Northwest Ontario after being selected from the Legion Athletic Camp. Daxx will compete in the midget men’s triple jump, high jump and javelin.
The rest of the athletes were able to achieve the entry requirements in competition this spring and will represent Prairie Storm Athletics.
Lara Denbow will compete in the midget women’s high jump while Peighton Johnson will compete in the midget women’s 100m.
Taine Middleton will compete in the youth men’s 100m while Ben Perrett will compete in the 400m. Daniele Dyck, Morgan Ramsay, and Zoie Forgue will all compete in the youth women’s 100m. They will also compete as part of the youth women’s 4x100m relay team which also includes Amy Klippenstein.
