MHSAA Provincials a Success

Thirteen members of Prairie Storm Athletics headed to the University of Manitoba this past weekend to represent their schools at the MHSAA Provincial High School Track and Field Championships.  Athletes wore school colors representing Neelin High School, Vincent Massey, Rivers Collegiate, Neepawa Area Collegiate, Carberry Collegiate, MacGregor Collegiate, and Baldur.

It was a weekend of successes for the athletes as they walked away with three medals in the 100m, two medals in the 200m, two medals in the 400m, and two medals in the 800m, not to mention more than a dozen personal best performances and a relay medal!

Medal performances include:
Daniele Dyck – 1st, JV Girls 100m – new personal best time
Taine Middleton – 3rd, JV Boys 100m – new personal best time
Morgan Ramsay – 2nd, V Girls 100m – new personal best time

Taine Middleton – 3rd, JV Boys 200m – new personal best time
Morgan Ramsay – 3rd, V Girls 200m

Peighton Johnson – 2nd, JV Girls 400m – new personal best time
Ben Perrett – 1st, JV Boys 400m – new personal best time
Amy Klippenstein – 2nd, V Girls 400m

Ben Perrett – 2nd, JV Boys 800m – new personal best time
Amy Klippenstein – 3rd, V Girls 800m

Some other notables from the weekend include that Peighton Johnson made her way into the 100m final (8th), 200m final (7th), and 400m final (2nd).  Between these individual events, Peighton ran in eight races over the three days and was able to set new personal bests in all events! She also raced in the 4x100m relay with her team! What a busy weekend for Peighton.

Charlot Butler was able to qualify for finals in both the 100m and 200m races in her final MHSAA Provincial Championship finishing 6th in both with new a new personal best in the 100m.  She also finished 7th in Long Jump just ahead of teammate Bea Levin who was representing Neelin (Bea was 6th in the varsity girls high jump as well).  Butler was able to bring home a bronze medal as a member of the Vincent Massey varsity girls 4x100m relay team.

Zoie Forgue, Jensyn Baron, Caitlin Meyers, and Daxx Turner were also able to set new personal bests over the weekend.  Zoie and Jensyn in the 100m, Caitlin in the 800m, while that new personal best for Daxx was in the Triple Jump where he placed 5th as a result of his new best jump.

Next up for Prairie Storm Athletics are the Manitoba Age Class Championships June 23 and 24th in Winnipeg.
