Boeing Indoor Championships

Eight members of Prairie Storm Athletics were able to compete at the Boeing Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 4th and 5th at the University of Manitoba.  Boeing is typically the last indoor meet of the season for many athletes and club members were in fine form against athletes from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

It was a weekend to remember for Lara Denbow as she competed in six events over the course of two days, medalling in three of them! She started the weekend off placing 3rd in the 1200m, while picking up 7th in 300m and 6th in the long jump.  As day two got started for her she grabbed a 17th in the 150m, but then raced very well in the 800m earning a 3rd place finish.  After waiting for a couple of hours and a delayed start to the High Jump she was able to wait and stay patient for the bar to rise from it’s beginning height of 1.00m.  As the field thinned as the bar climbed Lara entered the competition at 1.20m, just to get a jump in after waiting so long.  As the bar raised to 1.30m she was the only competitor to successfully clear the height earning herself a gold medal!  As the competition watched she proceeded to clear 1.35m and then 1.40m matching her personal best.  On her 2nd attempt she easily cleared 1.42m for a new personal best but after a long competition and not a lot of time between jumps she was not able to clear 1.44m.  Nevertheless, a Provincial Gold and new personal best to go along with two Bronze medals made for an exciting and successful weekend! Congratulations Lara!

Club mate Ben Perrett had a strong showing on Saturday in the Men’s Midget 800m where he earned a Silver medal after a solid race in a time of 2:10.14!  Ben also finished 5th in the 300m race on Friday.  After battling some nagging minor injuries for much of the indoor season it was an excellent way to end off!

Some other notable performances were from Taine Middleton placing 5th in both the Long Jump and the 60m.  While in the Youth Women’s 60m both Zoie and Charlot were able to make the finals with Charlot placing 4th and Zoie 7th.

Congratulations everyone on a successful indoor season!
